Jim was born October 5, 1943 the son of Frank C. and Viola (Sorenson) Briggs in De Moines, IA. He graduated from De Moines Schools and went on to work for Bridgestone/ Firestone until unable to work due to health concerns. James had an extreme thirst for knowledge, so much so, that in his late 40s he went on to attend Iowa State University Demac and always made the Dean's List. On December 31, 2001, after 31 years of loving her, Jim was finally united in marriage to Judy (Waldee) Vogt in Marshfield, WI. Judy feels very blessed to have spent those 13 years with him and to finally share a family.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading, antiquing, gardening, fishing, and watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. drive the number 88 car for Nascar. Those that knew him best will miss his warm spirit and his love of the time spent with his son at the Sprint Car Races in Knoxville, IA. It meant a lot to him that his twin grandsons are carrying on the tradition. Jim's family will celebrate a memorial there for friends and family in August.
He leaves behind his wife: Judy Briggs; children: Kimberly Walsh, James "Wade" Briggs; and step children: Logan (John) Bezlyk, Mark (Cassie) Vogt, and Holly (Matt) Nelsen. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Rachel, Lyndsey, Ryan, Jack, Michael, Alex, Zach, Joseph, Samuel "James", Avery, Jaden, Griffin, and Adyson; great grandchildren: Savannah and Brayton; as well as siblings: Pauline Nutter, Bonnie Porter, Mary Scheel, Edwin (Mary Claire) Briggs and Jerry (Elaine) Briggs.
Even though he had difficulty expressing his deep concern for his loved ones, he often shared with his wife his deep love for his entire family.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents: Frank C. and Viola; as well as his brothers: Frank M. Briggs and Donald Briggs.
