Eldon Andersen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2016.
Andersen, Eldon

On December 21, 2016 the good lord saw it fit to bring home one of his beloved children, Lt. Colonel Eldon Buryl Andersen.

Eldon passed away peacefully at the Old soldier's home in King, Wisconsin at the age of 95. Eldon liked this home as he was with his brothers in arms.

Eldon was born in Encampment, WY to Harry and Irene Andersen in his grandfather's home stead Log house. Both of his parents were pioneers. He studied animal husbandry at the University of Fort Collins, CO. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science. The day after graduation, on May 19th 1942, Eldon was commissioned as second lieutenant in the US Army. Eldon served in WW II and the Korean War and received 6 battle stars and multiple commendations. He studied Iranian culture and language at the University of Princeton to serve as a military attaché in Iran only to be denied the post because he was married to a German war bride. His orders were amended to teach military history at the Command and General Staff in Fort Leavenworth, KS. Multiple assignments in the US and oversees followed. He retired from the Army in 1962, continued living in Germany until 1982 when he moved to Denver, CO. He and his wife Christa then moved to Marshfield, WI in 1997 where he lived until Nov. of 2015. He was married for 52 years to our beloved mother Christa née Arndt from Silesia, Germany, and after her death he married Blandina née Zollner, from Augsburg, Germany.

He will be missed by his oldest son James and wife Karen Andersen, by his daughter Victoria Andersen and husband Ronald Tanko and youngest son Niels and wife Janet Andersen and by 8 grandchildren.

He was loved for his humor, friendly personality, intelligence and witty mind.

Colonel Andersen will be cremated and receive proper military burial at the Veteran Cemetery in King, Wisconsin in the spring of 2017.

He was a wonderful friend, very intelligent , friendly, giving and loving. He was a real gentleman. We are very sad to hear of his death and our sincere condolence's go out to all of his family. You certainly have taken very good care of both he and Friedel while she was still alive. We can't say enough good things about our dear friends. May he rest in peace and God be with all of you in your sorrow.
