Gordon "Gordy" Richard Schmoll, age 89, of Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield. The Rev. Chris Schwanz will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Church from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday. Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Schmoll, Dale Geldernick, Craig Spindler, Steven Spindler, Brian Schmoll, and Richard Menning. Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gordy was born on November 8, 1923, the son of William E. and Odelia M. (Lueck) Schmoll. Gordy was raised on the family farm and received his education at West Kerwin School in the Town of McMillan.

On October 17, 1942, Gordy was united in marriage to Elizabeth E. Schwantes at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Shortly after, in 1943, Gordy joined the armed services and earned a Purple Heart while proudly serving his country as an Army Corporal in France and Germany during WWII, until his honorable discharge on January 10, 1946.

Following his discharge, Gordy returned to Marshfield, his wife Betty and his job at the Roddis Veneer Company, where he worked with a perfect attendance record for 47 years until his retirement.

Gordy and Betty raised three children and were married for 53 years before she preceded him in death on July 28, 1996.

On October 4, 1997, Gordy married Esther (Weber) Luepke; she preceded him in death on October 28, 2008.

Gordy was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he proudly ushered for many years. Gordy was also a member of VFW Post 1866, and was very proud to march with his fellow veterans as a flag-bearer in many parades and events. Gordy also enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends, family gatherings and gardening.

Gordy is survived by his children: James G. (Lynne) Schmoll, Marshfield; Marjorie (Ray) Buelow, Hortonville; and LeRoy (Karen) Schmoll, Marshfield; step-children: Gary (Sandy) Luepke, La Crosse; Marlene Luepke, Marshfield; and Deborah (Doug) Kochanowski, Huntington Beach, California; grandchildren: Cynthia, Brian, Lisa, Dawn, Steven, Nicole, Craig, Kerri and Roger; step-grandchildren: Ryan, Jenny, Nicole, Brianna and Katie; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and twin sister, Gladys Bolitho, Eugene, Oregon.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Betty and Esther; a sister, Erna; brothers: Elton, Melvin, Marvin, William, and Cyril; as well as two grandchildren; Amy and Susan.
