Robert Niles Obituary

Robert J. Niles 1924-2013 SPRINGFIELD - Robert J. Niles, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2013, with his loving family by his side. Born in Houlton, ME on May 4, 1924, he was a son of the late Leon and Helen (Peabody) Niles and predeceased by his brother Richard Niles. Robert lived in Maine until 1952 when he relocated his family to Western Massachusetts. He and his wife retired and moved to Florida in 1986 returning to Springfield in 2010. A US Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres, and fought in the battles of Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Robert was an alchemist for the Monsanto Corp., and was also a member of the American Legion. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Priscilla H. (Field) Niles; his loving children, LeRoy D. Niles and his wife Deborah of Chicopee, and Phyllis Bell and her husband Roy of Indiana; his 4 cherished grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a committal service with military honors for Robert on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 1 PM in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. kozikowskifuneralhome.com
