Louis G. LaPointe Jr.

Louis G. LaPointe, Jr. 1934 - 2013 EAST LONGMEADOW - Louis "Lou" George LaPointe, Jr. passed away on July 2, 2013. Lou was born in Salem, MA on November 24, 1934 to parents Louis George and Marion (Trask) LaPointe. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Judith Mae (Judy) LaPointe of Springfield, MA. He grew up in Beverly, MA with his brother, Richard E. (Dick) LaPointe and was a 1952 graduate of Beverly High School, Beverly, MA. He served two years in the US Army stationed in San Francisco, CA at which time he married his first wife, Alice Jane Ricker, of Augusta, ME and had three children. He received a BA from the University of Massachusetts and worked in the life insurance industry for Monarch Insurance Company where he met his second wife, Judy. He went on to work for the Hartford Insurance Company for 26 years as a medical underwriter and was Director of National Group Life and Health accounts, retiring in 1992. Lou was a long-time resident of East Longmeadow and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, golfing, fishing and spending time with family. He especially loved being in his yard by the pool enjoying family barbeques. In addition to his brother, Dick, Lou is survived by three children, Louis (Buddy) LaPointe III and his wife, Helen, of Marathon, FL, Cheryl Myers and her husband, Dan of Windsor, CT, and David LaPointe and his wife, Abbey of North Port, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christine LaPointe Souliere, Mary Lynne LaPointe, Jodi Myers, Eric Myers, Nathan Benis, and Jackie Larson. Other people who did so much to help Lou during the past few years include his special sister-in-law and caregiver, Carol Danenza, and her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Walt Fuller. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Gail (and Sammy) Vatrano, and several nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff on 4 East at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home for all of the care and comforting they provided to Louis and the family. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, July 5th from 10AM - 12PM immediately followed by a memorial service at 12PM in Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA.
