Thomas H. Friel
Thomas H. Mike Friel, 84 years, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Monday evening November 12, 2012 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born in East Mauch Chunk to the late Hugh E. and Bertha M. (Albeck) Friel, he was the husband of Rosemary J. (Amici) Friel for 35 years. Mike was a dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Allentown, and the Knights of Columbus. A 1947 graduate and outstanding athlete of Mauch Chunk Catholic High School, he was Captain of the basketball team that made it to the State Finals. He was a talented baseball player and excelled in all sports. Mike was inducted into the Jim Thorpe Sports Hall of Fame, and was an avid bowler. He was a wonderful husband, loving brother, very special uncle to a host of nieces, nephews and their families, and a dedicated friend. He worked in the clerical dept. of Mack Truck until retiring, and earlier in life for the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Survivors: Besides his wife; sisters, Lorraine Boyle of Whitehall, Patricia Heaney and husband Al of Jim Thorpe, Rosemarie Svetik and husband Joseph of Chalfont; brother, James J. Friel and his wife Susan (Carroll) of Whitehall; nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by sister, Jean Friel. Services: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Friday November 16, 2012 in the Church, 1046 W. Cedar Street, Allentown, with Rev. Msgr. Victor F. Finelli as the Celebrant. A calling hour will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Church Foyer. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Upper Macungie Twp. Contributions: St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 1046 W. Cedar St Allentown PA 18102. The Gilbert Funeral Home of Whitehall is honored to handle his arrangements.

Dear Mrs. Friel, I was a classmate of Mike's and graduated with him in 1947.
He was a wonderful person and was so kind to everyone.
I have lived in Mahoning Valley for my wholemarried life and I did see Mike from time to time. I am now 73 yrs old.
I am sooo sorry for you !
