Earl M. Brewer, Sr., 81, of Belfast, Plainfield Township passed away Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his residence following a long battle with lung cancer. Born January 11, 1931 in Plainfield Township, he was a son of the late Earl S. and Maude H. Jones Brewer. His wife, Ethel Greenleaf Brewer, to whom he had been married for 48 years, died June 9, 2000. Early in life Earl worked as a farmer and painter. Later he was employed by Met-Ed, retiring after 40 years of service. Earl was an avid dancer and sportsman. He loved gardening, woodworking, traveling, and craft shows. He was a life member of Belfast-Edelman Sportsman Club, where he served as treasurer. He also coached Belfast Youth Group. Survivors: Earl is survived by one son, Earl M., Jr. and his wife, Sarah of Plainfield Township; one daughter, Cindy Tripp and her husband, Doug of Moorestown; one brother, David Brewer and his wife, Linda of Bushkill Township; three grandchildren, Barbara Jo Brewer, Lori Pitcock and her husband, William, and Steven Counterman and his wife, Holly; two step-grandchildren, Mallory Vough and her companion, James Seigfried, and SSG Christopher Vough and his wife, Vennassa; one great-grandson, Grayson Pitcock. Earl was also survived by his companion, Dorothy Nepa. In addition to his wife, Ethel, he was predeceased by one sister, Arda Sue Zver; and one granddaughter, Erin Brewer. Services: 11 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2012 in the Schmidt Funeral Home P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth with the Reverend C. Frank Terhune officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evening and 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery.
