Eugene A. Capers, 82, of Allentown, PA passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in the Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Alexander) Capers. Born in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Reverend Eugene A. Capers, Sr. and the late Annie Mae (Wilkins) Capers. Eugene was a veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in battle. After serving his country, he then spent his younger years working in several occupations that helped him support his family. As an accomplished chef, he worked for several restaurant chains before moving to employment in the textile industry. Eugene spent 16 years working for R & F Dress Company before the business closed. In 1987, Eugene began the next phase of his life when he started working for the Allentown School District, where he retired in 1998. Eugene had a strong faith which he exercised by reading his Bible and studying the Word. He was an ordained Deacon of Greater Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Temple located in Allentown. Eugene was very active in the church and served as a trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and taught Sunday school. One of his many enjoyments in life was fishing and catching crabs. He and Mary Ann liked to travel and celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries at resorts that catered to their occasion. Survivors: Eugene will be fondly remembered by his sons, Eugene (Jane), Michael (Ella), James, Kevin, Thomas (Jess); daughters, Gail (James) and Linda (Raymond); brother, Charles Capers of Savannah, GA; and sister, Corrie Johnson of Hawaii; and a host of grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Angela Bosket (Daniel); brothers, Albert, Daniel, and Lawerence; and sisters, Eugenia and Dolores. Services: Viewing hours will be held at the Greater Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Temple located at 1119 W. Liberty Street, Allentown on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The home-going celebration will follow immediately after at 11 a.m. Interment Highland Cemetery, Allentown, PA.
