Fred P. Ayre, Jr.
Fred P. Ayre, Jr., 84, of Bethlehem passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in St. Lukes Hospice House, Lower Saucon Twp. He was the husband of Marie A. (Wernett) Ayre, they were married 63 years in May. Born in Kingston, Luzerne Co., he was the son of the late Fred P. Ayre, Sr. and Lucinda (Egan) Ayre. Fred worked in the Research Department at Bethlehem Steel as a Technician and Chemical Engineer and retired as an Assistant Research Engineer after 32 years in 1979. He was an avid inventor with four personal patents, along with many owned by Bethlehem Steel. His patents included the TRU-Fit and PRO-Fit Bowling Ball fitting systems and a Lane Construction System, with which he refitted the Central Bowling Lanes of Bethlehem. Fred and his wife, Marie, ran the Christmas Tree Lot, which benefited the Liberty High School Grenadier Band on High and Fairview Streets for many years. He was a member of Christ Church UCC, Bethlehem. Survivors:
His loving wife, Marie; daughter, Grayce A. Ruth and her husband, Eric; son, Fred P. Ayre, III and his wife, Jane, all of Bethlehem; sisters, Nancy Lou Ridyard of Wayne, PA, Jacqueline Mack of Willingboro, NJ, JoAnn Alessi of West Hartford, CT; six grandchildren, Erica, Heidi, Byron, Corianne, Courtney, Jonathan; and four great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by a son, Byron Aubrey Ayre in 1973 and sisters, Jane Ruhf and Jessica Apple. Services:
