Gene R. Nadig, 89, of Allentown, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013, in St. Lukes Hospital, Fountain Hill. He and his wife, Mary Jane (Uhler), celebrated their 64th anniversary in September. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Louise E. (Romig) Nadig. A 1942 graduate of Allentown High School, he was an Army veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Gene was awarded the French Legion of Honor medal by the French government for his service in France during the war. Prior to retiring in 1986, he was a stereotyper at the Morning Call for 44 1/2 years. For the past two years, he was employed by the city of Allentown as a crossing guard. He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, Emmaus Chorale, VFW #12099, American Legion #576, and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Lehigh Valley Chapter. Gene was a former member of Zion Choral Society for 33 years and Summer Harmony for 10 years. Survivors: Wife; sons, Keith G. and wife, Kathy, Denver, CO, Dwight R. and wife, Carol, York, Craig T. and wife, Nancy, Lititz, David E., Boston, MA; brother, Frederick, NY; sister, Lelia L., Allentown; six grandchildren. Brother, Thomas, Jr., half-brother, William Ebner, and half-sister, Myrtle Pearson, preceded him in death. Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday in Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. 1335-37 W. Linden St. Call 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap VA National Cemetery. Contributions: To church, 689 S. Hillview Rd., 18103.
