Gerald J. Burkit, 69, of Bethlehem died Friday, February 28, 2014 at ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem. He is the husband of the late Jacqueline (Gibson) Burkit who died May 1, 2012. Born in Bethlehem Twp. on May 5, 1944 to the late William J. and Mary (Hankulich) Burkit. He served our country faithfully in the US Army during Vietnam War. Gerald worked at the former Heckett Engineering, Lower Saucon as an equipment operator for many years until retiring. Survivors: Children: Charles E. Rugh (Rosanne) of Bath, Gregory P. Rugh of Bethlehem, Sandra Chasser (Adam) of Allentown, Tammy L. Szabo (Frank) of Freemansburg; siblings: Ronald of Hellertown, Stephen of New Smithsville, Delores Kuronya of Bremerton, WA; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. Services: Family and friends are invited to call 9-10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. 326 Main Street - Hellertown followed by the service at 10 a.m. The interment will conclude services at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
