Harriett E. Bitterman
Harriett E. Bitterman, 86, of Wescosville, died Friday, January 18, in Above and Beyond Assisted Living, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Bitterman. Born June 3, 1926 in Detroit MI, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mildred (Mohrdiek) Ewing. Harriett was a special Education Teacher in the Bethlehem School District from 1980 to 1992, prior she taught in the Syracuse Area for 25 years. She received her B.A. in Education from the University of Michigan. Harriett was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Allentown. In spite of challenges with Arthritis and Alzheimers disease, Harriet maintained a positive attitude, kept her sense of humor and was always appreciative of her blessings and any kindness from others. She made each of her family members feel loved and made friends with everyone she met. She always loved children and found joy in her lifes work with special needs children. Harriett inspired and touched the lives of many throughout her career in special education in Syracuse, NY and Allentown/Bethlehem, PA. Family was very dear to her and she enjoyed returning to her family roots and summers in Pentwater, MI, each year. Survivors: Son, James R. Bitterman and his wife Paula, of Northampton; daughter, Mildred A., wife of Roger Hill, of Grand Rapids, MI, their children, Eric Hill and Katherine, wife of Charles Baker; daughter, Carol A., wife of Michael Moore, of Charlotte, N.C. and their children, Andrew and Elizabeth Moore. Services: A Memorial Service will be Friday, January 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home 326 E. 21st St. Northampton. Family and friends may call Friday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
