Helen M. Happel

Happel, Helen M.Helen M. Happel, 85, of S. Whitehall Twp., died Saturday June 7, 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of George Happel to whom she was married 60 years last February. Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Pauline (Ballas) Sickonic. In 1947, she graduated from Northampton High School and later in 1983 from Eastern Airline Travel Academy. Before retiring to Naples, Fl, she owned Travel Agent's International, formerly in Allentown and was a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, CLIA, (Cruise Line Association) and the Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Orefield and a prior member of Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena Church, Allentown where she was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and volunteered for Lehigh Valley and Sacred Heart Hospitals. When living in Allentown, she was an avid bridge teacher and played at the Lehigh Valley Active Life Center and has maintained her membership with Lehigh Country Club. While in Naples, she continued her bridge teaching and became a member of the Stonebridge Country Club. Survivors: husband George, son Mark A. of Mertztown, daughter, Beverly A., wife of Robert Kistler of S. Whitehall Twp., four grandchildren, George, Justin, Brandon, Jenna. She was predeceased by brothers John, Michael, Frank, Joseph, sisters Mary Cizmar and Margaret Smith Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 11, at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1879 Applewood Dr., Orefield. Calling will begin at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville.
