James Knappenberger
James C. Knappenberger, 77, of Breinigsville, was fatally injured Monday morning in a traffic accident. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Clinton A. and Ruth M. (Schell) Knappenberger. He owned furniture stores in Northampton and Slatington, was affiliated with the former TV Asscociates retail store in Whitehall, and was known as The Mattress Man at his Poland, New York, business. He served in the United States Marine Corps during The Korean War and was a member of Robert M. Fegely V.F.W. Post 8282 in Breinigsville. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing and collecting glassware and antiques. Survivors: Daughters, Diana, wife of Michael Vavreck, of Reading, Suzanne Knappenberger of Macungie, Renee, wife of Wayne Evans, of Bethlehem, Kathleen, wife of William Wenz II, Stacy Schnellman, and Christine Seaman, all of Breinigsville; sister,Carol Williamson Hamm, wife of Richard Hamm, Allentown, 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and former wife, Shirley (Wasco) Balatinicz of Reading. He was predeceased by his companion, Susan Cirtwell; and a grandson, William J. Wenz III. Services: Are 11 a.m. Saturday in Schmoyer Funeral Home, 8926 Brookdale Road, Breinigsville.
