Jay W. Scheirer, 77, of Allentown, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. He was the husband of Mabel I. (Kern) Scheirer. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in November 2012. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Earl E. and Edith L. (Lobach) Scheirer. Jay was a graduate of Allentown H.S. and a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for UGI for over 31 years before retiring as a bill collector in 1998. Jay belonged to the Quarter of a Century Club thru UGI. He was a member of St. Johns U.C.C. of Howertown. Survivors: Wife; brothers, Gary E. Scheirer and his wife Angie, Gerald N. Scheirer, all of Allentown; step-sister, Lilia I. Trexler of Bethlehem; Jay is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Melvin E. Scheirer; and by a sister, Justine L. Scheirer. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, St. Johns U.C.C., 22 Atlas Rd., Northampton, 18067. Call 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Interment, Schoenersville Cemetery.
