Muriel R. Parlin

Parlin, Muriel R.Muriel R. Parlin, 87, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, in her apartment at Kirkland Village. She was the wife of Stewart D. Parlin. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary in July. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Kull) Ruemmler. A graduate of Beaver College, Muriel received a Master's of Education degree from Harvard University. She taught first and second grades in Montclair, NJ and Cambridge, Mass. She later worked in various positions in the Bethlehem Area School District. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Muriel was one of the founders of Trinity's Soup Kitchen, which was started by delivering soup to the hungry from the back of her station wagon. She was a member of AAUW and the Fortnightly Club. Survivors: Husband, Stewart; son, James of Edinboro, PA; daughters, Ruth of Manhattan, NY and Kathryn of Brattleboro, VT; grandchildren, Cyrus, Ursula, Carolyn and Christopher. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Trinity Episcopal Church. Family and friends are invited to call from noon until service time in the church.
