Philip E. Carlson, age 97, passed away on December 20, 2012 at Waverly Heights, Gladwyne, PA. He was born on March 25, 1915 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of John F. and Laura E. Carlson. He was the husband of Louise Burger Carlson of Allentown from May of 1941 until her death in October 1974. He married Effie Moran of Gladwyne in May of 1976 until her death in 1999. Phil graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1938 with B.A. in Chemical Engineering. During WW II he served in the US Navy from 1941 to 1945, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Phil spent his business career in the Portland Cement industry. He began in 1946 with Lehigh Portland Cement Company, then to Alpha Portland Cement company, from which he retired in 1976 as vice president of manufacturing. Phil was an avid tennis player, swimmer, photographer, and golfer. Survivors: Sons, Philip B. Carlson and his wife, Deborah, of Bethlehem, and John C. Carlson and his wife, Linda, of Reading; grandsons, Scott M. Carlson, Daniel P. Carlson, Philip K. Carlson, and Benjamin T. Carlson and his wife, Lindsay. Phil is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Estrella Ann Carlson; two nieces; a nephew; stepsons, Jim and Judd Moran; and his companion for the past ten years, Carolyn Henry. He is predeceased by a sister, Joan Carlson Wilson; and a granddaughter, Courtney Louise Carlson. Services: At Phils request, there will be no services.
