Ralph J. Wilhide
Ralph J. Wilhide, 89, of Allentown, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 in his residence. He was the husband of Donna K. (Williams) Wilhide. They celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary earlier this month. Ralph was also the husband of the late Lucille E. (Bigley) Wilhide. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Elsie L. (Billett) Wilhide. Ralph was a graduate of Allentown H.S. He worked as a molder at Bethlehem Steel for 44 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. Wilhide was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a T/5 Communication Chief. He served in the European Theatre for 18 months in France and Germany, received five Campaign Stars, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a member of General Pattons Third Army Thrust through Germany. Ralph was a founder, charter member and life-member of VFW #2124, Allentown, where he also served as an officer and Past Commander. He was also a member of American Legion Post #576 in Allentown. Mr. Wilhide was a member of Jordan-Martin Lodge #673 F. & A.M., Jordan Royal Arch Chapter #203, both in Allentown and Rajah Shrine Temple, Reading. He was the president of the Roosevelt PTA from 1960 to 1961. Ralph was a director and an officer of Mountainville Memorial Little League, including one year as president, 20 years as treasurer and equipment manager. He was also a vice-president and director of the Board of Governors for Mountainville Memorial L.L. Mr. Wilhide was a dog trainer with the Bethlehem YMCA for 34 years and trained over 1000 dogs, including his own champion Weimaraner. Ralph was a member of Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, Allentown. Survivors: Wife; sons, Michael A. Wilhide and his wife Denise J. of Allentown, Ralph B. Wilhide and his fiance Kim Lapp of New Tripoli; daughters, Constance A. and her husband John O. Johnson of Bethlehem, Denise E. Kern of Whitehall; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Krause of Allentown, Esther Sweeney of Florida. Ralph was predeceased by a son Bruce C. Wilhide. Services: Masonic Service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013, Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, 1431 Lehigh Parkway East, Allentown followed by the funeral service.
