Robert James Donaldson, Jr.
Robert James Bob Donaldson, Jr., 87, of Bethlehem went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at St. Lukes Hospice House. Born in Dayton, OH, Bob was the eldest of five children of the late Robert James and Mildred Miles Donaldson. Bob and his close friend, Ralph Becker, joined the Army
Air Corps as Aviation Cadets while still in high school in 1943 and entered active service the next year, but World War II wound down before they were shipped overseas. After the war, Bob enrolled in Miami University in Oxford, OH. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and graduated with a degree in Zoology from the College of Arts and Sciences. Bob worked for Burmah-Castrol, from which he retired in 1989 as Technical Department Manager. Bob joined the Barbershop Harmony Society in 1953, performing with various chapters in Ohio, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania over the years. He shared this hobby of music and fellowship with his wife, Mickey, and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Harmonizers since the couple moved to Bethlehem in 1991. They have both been faithful members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, and in recent years had met regularly with friends from the church on Tuesday mornings for coffee and an apple fritter at Wegmans. Bob was also a longtime member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. Bob was a patriot who loved his country.
