Ruth Lawson Livesay
Ruth (Bonnie) Livesay made a gentle and peaceful transition on Monday, June 17, 2013, at her Allentown home and surrounded by three generations of her loving family. Born in New York City in 1924, Ruth embraced life to its fullest. In the course of her life, Ruth worked in varied occupations including journalist
, phone company service representative, AFL-CIO, CWA union organizer and representative, baby nurse, and employment agency owner/operator. At the age of 68, Ruth earned a nursing degree and worked as an LPN in Maryland. Highly intelligent, Ruth loved languages, art, music, dance and intellectual pursuits and was a committed activist, most recently working with Health Care for All - PA, to promote an affordable and equitable single payer option. She lived in many places and traveled extensively throughout Europe. She loved the great outdoors and in her younger years could be found swimming, scuba diving, playing tennis, or riding horses. Later in life, she took up golf and became an avid dart player. Ruth was a life-long learner. She enjoyed learning languages and about other cultures and religions. A highly spiritual person, Ruth felt her lifes work was as a teacher and, in the course of her life, touched many people. Survivors:
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Laurie Ruth (William) Schutt of Doylestown, PA and Susan Victoria (Ernest) George, with whom she shared a home in Allentown; and her brother, Paul B. (Anna) Lawson and their son, Christopher, of Goldsboro, NC. She leaves six grandchildren, David S.A. Jones (Donna) of Cinnaminson, NJ, Nadine Hamilton (Stephen Rohrbach) of Allentown, Richard Hamilton (Nicole den Ouden) of Tenants Harbor, ME, Ashley R. McCarthy of Dallas, GA, Christopher (Lori) George of Amherst, MA, and Kimberly George of Eustis, FL. She leaves nieces, Carol E. Lawson, Helen Lawson, Debra Lawson-Reinders; and nephew, Carl Eric Lawson; and nine great-grandchildren, Brandon and Erika Jones, Sofia and Lily Rohrbach, Weston and Naomi Hamilton-den Ouden, and Bailey, Tierney, and Kyle George. She was predeceased by her mother, Marion Johanson Lawson Hertz; father, Henry C. Lawson; brother, Carl H. Lawson; and her beloved partner, Stokes H. Homan. Services:
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2013, at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 1629 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA. Friends and family are welcome to gather between 3 and 4 p.m. A brief service will commence at 4 p.m. Contributions:
