Ruth M. Dougherty of Hatchery Rd., Jim Thorpe died December 8, 2012 in Penn Forest. She was the wife of Thomas P. Dougherty. They were married 52 years on October 22. Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Richard C. and Mary (Wolfe) Hendra. She worked in the Easton-Phillipsburg area before graduating from Phillipsburg NJ High School. She then worked for Western Union Corp. in Hackensack, NJ. She later became the district manager for Avon Cosmetics covering Northampton, Monroe, and Carbon Counties. Along with her husband they owned and operatedDoughertys Antique Auction House in Meckesville, the original Sud Inn, Kidder Twp., and Doughertys Emporium-Gift/Antique Shop and Saloon. She established a wholesale-retail operation selling rabbit pelts she purchased from Monk Fur Co. in Jim Thorpe. Also, along with John Gunser they formed an antique appraisal service serving N.E. PA. She raised and raced sled dogs. She provided stud services toDieruff High School, Allentown for their mascot. She was a member of the Mauch Chunk Rod and Gun Club, the BRT Aux., the Jim Thorpe American Legion Ladies Aux.,the Lake Harmony, Albrightsville, and Penn Forest Fire Companies. Survivors: Besides her husband; she is survived by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Beryl Hendra. Services: All services will be private.
