Wilbur K. Matz, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at St. Lukes Hospice House, Lower Saucon Twp. He was the husband of Catherine M. Kay (Reitbauer) Matz. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in December. Born in Bethlehem, he was the last living child of the late Franklin and Zelda (Biery) Matz. Following graduation from Liberty High School, Wilbur served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp, during World War II, where he was an Aircraft Navigator in the China Burma Campaign. Wilbur worked as a General Contractor for 40 years. He first got involved in Little League in 1967. I wanted to teach them the right way to play baseball, Matz said. He coached various levels at City Line L.L., before joining the district staff. As a member of the district staff, Wilbur held various positions, such as the East Region director and State and Regional tournament director, during his 43 years of service to Little League. Wilbur was a life member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Bethlehem and served as head of Property Committee, among other offices. Survivors: His loving wife, Kay; daughter, Michele M. Matz of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and a son, Michael F. Matz of Panama City Beach, FL. Services: Services are private. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
