William D. Cornwell, III
William D. Cornwell, III, 72, of Clifton Township, Lackawanna County, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Celtic Healthcare Hospice in Dunmore after a 16-month battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Lucille D. Grow Cornwell. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late William Darlington Cornwell, Jr. and Lorraine (Worsley) Cornwell. After graduating from Liberty High School in 1958, he served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S Army over 20 years, including the reserve duty. He was also a recipient of the bronze star. He later worked as a plant patrolman at Bethlehem Steel, for ITT in Easton and as a security guard at Westgate Mall before retiring. William was a member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Lucille; are daughters, Christine Gilbert and her husband, David of Whitehall, Cassandra Clevenstine and her husband, Jeremy of Sinking Spring; stepdaughter, Lee Anne (Grow) Wagaman and her husband, Craig C. of Lititz; stepsons, Leslie A. Grow and his wife, Tracie L. (Fitzwater) of Selbyville DE, Edward R. Grow, II and his wife, Terry of Waynesboro, VA, and Robert C. Grow and his wife, Lauri (Vachino) of Lititz; sister, Karen Rodgers and her husband, Harry of Bethlehem; nine grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A son, William Darlington Cornwell, IV; and a brother, George Cornwell, died earlier. Services: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street in Bethlehem.
