William J. Hlay, 84 of Allentown passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in his home. William was the husband of Rose G. (Saylor) Hlay and they celebrated their 52nd anniversary this past August. Born in Claysburg, PA, he was a son of the late David and Bertha (Blazevich) Hlay. Bill worked for the former Consolidated Freightway Co. as a truck drive for 25 years prior to retiring in 1989. Bill was the former Business Manager for the Health and Welfare Committee for Teamsters Local #773. He was a member of the Teamsters Retirees. Bill was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Allentown. Survivors: Surviving with his wife, Rose are sons, Mark R. Boyd of Breinigsville, Will Hlay of Catasauqua, and Matt Hlay and his wife, Kristin in Schnecksville; a daughter, Cathy, wife of Dennis Melahn in Gilbertsville; brothers, David in Pembroke Pines, FL, Joseph in Hollywood, FL, and Martin and his wife, Carolee in Bethlehem; sisters, Mary Robertson in Allentown, and Barbara, wife of Scott Atkinson in Vera Beach, FL. Bill is survived by his grandchildren, Katelyn Melahn, Allison Melahn, Kylie Hlay, and Kayla Hlay. Services: A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10 a.m. to Noon in the ODonnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Ave., Allentown. Contributions: The family has requested no flowers, please.
