Alfred G. Fritz Schrettner, 93, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 in Holy Family Manor. On September 28th he and his wife Helen (Horvath) celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. He was born in Allentown, the son of the late Anthony and Stella (Mild) Schrettner. He was a 1936 graduate of Central Catholic High School and the last surviving member of their 1935-1936 state championship basketball team. He later served in Gen. George Pattons 3rd Army during WW II. He was employed at Arbogast & Bastian as a supervisor of Pedal Trucks and Transportation until retirement in 1981. Fritz was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Catharine of Siena, an usher, its Men of the Cathedral Society, served as and Chairman and Co-Chairman of its Little Lot fundraising program for 18 years and helped with the Bishops Appeal. He was a life member of 4th Degree, the 1st President of the Lehigh Valley Assembly of Knights of Columbus, a Grand Knight, Vice Grand Knight and Chancellor of the former Holy Rosary Council #4397 in Emmaus, and currently a member of the Calvary Council #528 in Allentown, Catholic War Veterans, and Queenship of Mary in Northampton, a life member of the Hogans Social Club and served in Salisbury Twp. voting polls. Survivors: Wife; brothers, Walter husband of Margaret and Helmuth husband of Catherine; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his son, Jerome; daughter, Kathleen; sister, Erna and brothers, Anthony and John. Services: Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 in the Cathedral Church of St. Catharine of Siena 18th & Turner Sts., Allentown, preceded by a visitation 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday in the Robert C Weir Funeral Home, 18th & Turner Sts., Allentown with interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville PA.
