Dear Barbara,
In my research of Moravian churches which televise Sunday Services. I came across the death notice of Doug's passing. Although I moved away from Reading, I know how much my father (Sam Wagner) thought of Doug and you.
In dad's eyes, Doug was the best. When we would visit Reading, we were sure to come to church and see Doug. My heart is filled with sadness for you and the family, but know that you will be united again. God's angel will be with you forever.

Pastor Doug had the light of Christ shining through him. He would always remember your name, the names of guests that you might bring to church and genuinely had something kind to say to make all feel truly welcome. In a very trying time of my life, he stood by me as an advocate and was a great comfort. I am so sorry for the loss of this great man for all of us but especially for his wife and family. Again, I am truly sorry.

Barbara, Doug and Ashley.....knowing Doug as a classmate at Moravian College and as pastor of College Hill Church, where I served on the Board of Elders under Doug, I know that his loss is leaving a huge space in your lives that cannot be filled by anyone else, but that his life in combination with yours was truly a blessing to his church and his community: a great man, a great pastor who will be missed and who we are thankful for.

Dear Family of Doug,
I had the privilege of working with Doug two times while living in the Bethlehem community. He was always just Doug to me as began our conversations. While serving at College Hill as an Intern, he offered me countless hours of advice, humor, love and respect in my preparation for the ministry. He and Barbara were great role models and we felt very much at home in PA.
When I received a call to become the Chaplain at MTS and Moravian College, he was one of the first to welcome me to the South Campus and Central Church. As always we enjoyed a great deal of conversations, great laughs and the joy of serving in the church of our beginnings. He will be missed by many here in the MCSP and the Unity as well. To all may God bless you and give you peace and love in this difficult time. I will miss you Doug, as a friend and as a fellow Southern Province boy from NC.
Peace,

Dear Barbara,
Doug was an inspiration to us as we explored joining the Moravian Church many years ago. We have the fondest memories of being at Central and learning from Doug's lessons in life. We have wandered far from Bethlehem yet found no Church to compare with Central, nor a pastor to compare with Doug. He will be forever in our memory and you and your family are in our hearts.

Dear Barbara, Ashley, Doug, Mrs. Caldwell and family,
Our deepest and since condolences on Doug's sudden and untimely (for all of us) passing. It is difficult for us to grasp the reality of the situation and our thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of grief and adjustment. I,Allen, first met Doug, his brother, and mother at Little Church in the Lane in the early 1960's and knew then that he was destined for great things. Our memories of times spent with you and Doug will remain precious to us. Yes, God has need of his skills and abilities and we all will be better because of that.
Love and best wishes,
Jean and Allen

My deepest sympathy to the entire Caldwell family and Moravian community. I've known Doug and Barbara since our years as students at Moravian College in 1965. Ashley was an editor-in-chief of Liberty's newspaper, Liberty Life, in the early 90s and a dear friend still.I was shocked and saddened by Doug's sudden death. God has taken him home after a job well done here in Bethlehem and in His church here on earth. God is good and always will be with us.
love you all,
