Charles B. Gifford, 84, a resident of North Las Vegas, NV passed away on Friday April 6, 2012 at Camilla Gardens Life Care in Thomasville, GA. Born in Jersey City, NJ on July 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Robert and Kathleen (Bennis) Gifford. Charles resided in the Las Vegas area since retiring as a Sergeant in the Rahway New Jersey Police Department, where he served for 26 years. He was the first officer of that department to have been honored to be selected to enter the FBI National Academy having graduated with Class 95 session on December 6, 1973. At age 17, he enlisted in the Navy during WWII and at the outbreak of the Korean Conflict was recalled back to active duty. A Petty officer 3rd Class he was a life member of the following: DAV Chapter 88, VFW Post #357 and the American Legion post #1005 all in Schenectady, NY. Predeceased by his brother, Robert Gifford and sister Kathleen Casper. Survivors: Charles is survived by his wife Ruth Ginger Gifford; his daughter, Laura Maison (Gregory) of Cairo, GA; brother, Joseph Gifford (Mary) of Florida; sister-in-law, Jean Gifford of Allentown, PA; grandchildren, Carolyn Cadenhead (Skyler) and Charles Maison (Amy); great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ayden Harrison and Dylan and Katelyn Maison; as well as several nieces and nephews. Services: A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 17 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY. Funeral services on Wednesday morning April 18 at 11 a.m. at the Second Reformed Church of Rotterdam, 118 Putnam at Gordon Road, Rotterdam, NY 12306 Charles will be laid to rest in the Gifford Family Plot next to the Church in Viewland Cemetery.
