Christa Maholick Obituary

Christa Marie Maholick
Christa Marie (Casciole) Maholick, 44, of Nazareth PA, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, after a courageous 4 year battle with breast cancer. Christa was born on July 2, 1968 in Easton PA, a daughter of Louis Casciole and the late Theresa (Zalsky) Casciole. Christa lived her entire life to the fullest with a passion, vigor and sense of humor that inspired so many along the way. Christa was an accomplished student, athlete and most importantly mother and wife. She devoted the last 12 years of her life raising her dear children, Lucas 11 and Kathryn 10, and caring for her mother who passed away almost 6 years ago. She was an avid sports fan and was passionate about Penn State football and the Phillies. Christa attended St Janes in Wilson through 8th grade and Wilson High School, class of 1986. She graduated with high honors, was voted Homecoming Queen, Prom Queen, and Most Valuable Player of the track team. She also was a Majorette, a member of the National Honor Society. She served as the class secretary and participated in the Northampton County Junior Miss. She continued her education at Shippensburg University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Finance while lettering in Track and Field, participating in the Long Jump, Triple jump and relays. Christa started her career at Liz Claiborne in NYC and then returned to the Lehigh Valley to work at Crayola where she met her husband Mike. While at Crayola, she attended graduate school at Lehigh University and earned her Masters Degree in Business Administration. She worked for Outer Circle Products in both Chicago and Virginia. After marriage and the birth of her son, she later moved to Delaware where she began her most cherished job of all as mother and wife. Christa loved her children and was devoted to nurturing every aspect of their lives. She taught them to be strong, stand up for whats right and what you believe in, treat people with respect and be gracious for Gods gifts. She also taught them to laugh and have fun, and to appreciate all that life brings. After her children were in grammar school, Christa pursued her desire to become a teacher, attending East Stroudsburg University and earning her teaching certification in elementary education. She served as a teachers aid and substitute teacher in the Nazareth and Bethlehem Area school districts. She also taught CCD prep classes at Holy Family Parish in Nazareth and was a board member of BeeSafe childrens preschool program.Christa was grateful for the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at St Lukes Hospital, Hospice and especially Dr. Schadt, Dr. Woodruff and Dr. Anna Niewiarowska and staff who provided exceptional care and compassion throughout her journey. She was also grateful to Lutron Electronics and the Nazareth Area School District who provided her husband and children with incredible support. She was most appreciative of our families and friends who made it possible for her to battle her illness for the last 4 years by providing support, food, laughs and unselfish love to make all of our lives as comfortable as possible during her long illness. Survivors: In addition to her father, husband and children, Christa is survived by her sister, Susan Casciole Raines; brother-in-law, Adam Raines; sister-in-law, Sharon Helm Casciole; brother, Matthew; beloved nieces and Goddaughters, Hannah Casciole and Morgan Casciole; father-in-law, Anthony Maholick; mother-in-law, Jeanne Maholick; brother-in-law, Mark Maholick; sister-in-law, Betsy Maholick; nephews, Calvin and Samuel Maholick. I had the honor of taking care of Christa on St Luke's rehab. I lost my best friend to breast cancer and thought it would be difficult to take care of her because of the memories. In the end it was an honor to have met her and her family. She IS an inspiration to me as a mother, wife, and friend. Such a beautiful soul and it was truely an honor to have known and cared for her for that short time. Thank you Christa for sharing your beautiful spirit with me!

It was a privilege to watch the Casciole children who lived in a home filled with love and laughter grow into the adults they are today. Their mother was the most optimistic person I ever met and Christa had her giggle and wonderful outlook. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and to know her was to love her. There are no words to express the sorrow I feel for her family. Christa will be forever missed by a multitude of people and an inspiration on how to die with dignity by all of us.

It has been an honor and a privilege to have known Christa. She lived with Integrity and died with Dignity. She truly ALWAYS, had a smile to offer and a positive comment to add. She is my IDOL. I have learned a lot. May you rest in peace. May you show others the way. May you be able to tell your loved ones YOU are Ok,…I know you are. You are FREE.

I am so sad to hear this news! This obituary is an amazing tribute and I hope it fills Christa's family with pride and joy. Although I did not know Christa that well, I do remember her energy & smile every time I saw her. My son has been in school with Kathryn since they were in Be Safe together. My heart breaks for Kathryn and her brother, and for Christa's husband. May your family find comfort in the warm memories you have through this extremely difficult time. There are no words that can heal your pain, just know that you are in thoughts, prayers & hearts of many of us out here.

My prayers go out to Christa's family as the days forthcoming will not be easy as you have lost a wife, mother, sister, daughter who loved you so much. To Christa, you will always be remembered by me as the kindest person who left a little of yourself in all of us. Rest in peace and follow your family in their journey through your new home.

January 27, 2013

Our deepest sympathies go out the the Maholik & Casciolli families. I've had the pleasure of knowing Christa & Mike at different points of my life. Christa was a great friend in high school, and Mike has been a great co-worker. Christa always brought tremendous passion and energy to everything she did. I can honestly say that she was one of the nicest and caring people that I have ever had the fortune to know. After re-connecting with her several years ago, it was great to see that she hadn't changed a bit! She took that passion and energy and focused it on Mike and the kids. Although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit will be present in our memories and hearts.

Our prayers will be with Mike and the kids during this difficult time.

Dear Mike,Lucas, and Kathryn,
Dan and I send our love and prayers to you and all of your family. Christa and I first met in high school while participating in the Northampton County Jr. Miss Pagaent. We became instant friends and have remained close all these years later. We shared so many fun times thorough high school, college, and beyond. Our weddings, Lucas and Kathryn's births, our love of sports, and so much more. Christa made the world a better place and always brought a smile to those around her. She is now with God as I know he has some special plans for her in Heaven. She will be a special angel on the shoulder of each one of us forever.

Dear Casciole & Maholick Families,
I went to ESU with Christa. She once sent me an email from the computer lab saying she was a ding dong and forgot her phone, there was a big black block on her computer screen and all kinds of silly things. I kept the email and have looked back on it several times because she reminded me not to take myself so seriously and to just laugh off the bad things.

She was an amazing person and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to know her. My thoughts are with you.
All the best,
Callie

Mike, Lucas, and Kathyrn,
I feel honored to have been a very small part of Christa's VNA team. Her giggle was infectious and it was obvious how much she loved and was loved by her family and friends. The last time I saw her before Thanksgiving, she talked about how she truly believed she would be able to continue to share in your lives in another dimension---and she said she was thinking about ways she could let you know she was there..I'm sure she'll be creative, whatever it is! Many prayers and blessings to you as you miss this wonderful, warm lady. Karen Montgomery, VNA of St Luke's

Her life was filled with so much joy with you, Mike, and I remember how lit up with happiness she was when she finally had her family when Lucas and Kathryn were born. That is truly all she ever wanted was to be a wife and mom. In her short time here, she sure did it all. . .everything that meant anything to her. She loved you with her whole heart. Take comfort from this day forward that she is now at peace and that because of you, she left here complete. I am grateful that I was one of the lucky ones to have known her and will hold her close in my heart until I see her again. Love to all three of you.
