Donald Francis McNabb
Donald Francis McNabb, 80, of Mulberry, FL, formerly of Macungie and Reading died Friday, August 26, 2011 in the Hospice House at Palm Terrace, Lakeland, FL. He was the husband of Dorothy (Deering) Hammond McNabb. They celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary in May. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Edwin J. and Frances (Jacoby) McNabb. After graduation from Allentown High School in 1948, he began working at Penn Allen Glass Co., Allentown. In 1979 Don acquired sole ownership of Penn Allen Glass Co. and Berks Lehigh Glass, serving as President and Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 1995. Active in the glass industrys professional associations, he served as Chairman of the National Glaziers Apprenticeship Fund from 1979 to 1987, Treasurer and Vice-President of the Flat Glass Marketing Association from 1988 to 1991, and on the Board of Directors of the National Glass Association from 1991 to 1993. He also served as the first President of the Glass Association of North America from 1994 to 1996. A 32nd Degree Mason, Mr. McNabb was a member of Greenleaf Lodge #561, Allentown and a member of the Elks Lodge #1291, Lakeland, FL. He was an avid golfer and a former member of Imperial Lakes Country Club, Mulberry, FL; Brookside Country Club; Moselem Springs Golf Club and Heidelberg Country Club. He was a former member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Allentown. Survivors: Wife; children, Jane L. wife of Eric Page of Wilmington, DE, Carol A. McNabb of Reading, James D. McNabb of Altoona, Thomas E. husband of Kelly McNabb of Blandon; step-children, Arthur G. Hammond of Boulder, CO, Kathleen (Hammond) Schmidt of Bloomingdale, IL, Rebecca (Hammond) wife of Brian Vaughan of New York, NY; brother, Robert E. husband of Bernadine McNabb of Allentown; five grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; one great granddaughter; former wife, Nancy J. (Haberman) McNabb. Services: Funeral Service 11A.M. Friday in Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 Hamilton St., Allentown. Call 10-11 A.M. Friday in the church. Interment Grandview Cemetery, Allentown.
