Gennaro A. Marino
Gennaro A. Jerry Marino, 82, a former Mayor of Kutztown, died suddenly March 31, 2012 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading shortly after admission. Born in the neighborhood of Corona, in Queens Borough, New York City, he was a son of the late Michael A. and Santa (DeFeo) Marino. Mr. Marino was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Marys Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown. Jerry was a 1957 graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed as a professional civil engineer by North Berry Structures Corporation, Brooklyn, DIC Concrete Corporation, New York, NY and many other high rise structural concrete corporations in New York City. Some of the more notable construction projects Mr. Marino worked on include the Twin Towers and Pan Am Buildings in New York City. He was licensed as a Professional Engineer in New York, Pennsylvania and Nevada. Marino served as mayor of the Borough of Kutztown from 2002 through 2005. He is a member of Floral Park Lodge 1016, F.&A.M., New York. Mr. Marino was a member of the Hoch-Balthaser American Legion Post 480, Kutztown, where he served as Treasurer, Kutztown Optimist Club, where he coached basketball and T-ball. He also was manager of a Babe Ruth Little League team in Kutztown, for two years. Jerry loved the Kutztown community and would often be seen walking Main Street, striking up conversations with passers-by, both young and old alike. Survivors: Son, Gerald C., husband of Susan (Mascioli) Marino, Long Island, NY; sister, Rose A. (Marino) Cion and nephew, John Patrick Cion, both of Bay Side, NY; he is also survived by three grandsons, Gerald Francis Marino, Michael A. Marino and Christopher Marino. He was predeceased by a son, Michael A. Marino, Esq., March 4, 2011; sister, Mary Ann Marino in 1951; and brother, James M. Marino in 1962. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 9, 2012, at 2 p.m. in St. Marys Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown with the Reverend Monsignor Walter T. Scheaffer, celebrant. Interment with military honors provided by Ray A. Master Post #217, American Legion, Topton, in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Monday, 12 to 2 p.m. in the church. Contributions: The family requests contributions be made to Kutztown Optimist Club, P.O. Box 137, Kutztown, PA 19530-0137. The Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., Kutztown is in charge of arrangements.
