John Peffer Obituary
"> John D. Peffer
John D. Pop Peffer, 87, of Hanover Township passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the home of his daughter Judie, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Originally from West Bethlehem he was the son of the late Frank N. Peffer and Nell Carrington Peffer. John looked forward to reuniting with the love of his life, his wife Nedra Campbell Peffer, who predeceased him in 2002. Pop never met a child he didnt like and proved it by raising not only his two daughters, Lonnie and Judie but a nephew John, his grandson Mark and his precious great-grandson Mitch with whom he resided. He spent many years working for the family business, Boulevard Cleaners, in Allentown, Larson Supply Co. and Energy Equipment and Control from which he retired in 1988. Along with Neddie, he co-owned Nedras Ceramics for over 25 years. He was a founding member of the Midway Manor Community Association in the neighborhood where they spent their entire married life. He was active in youth activities and coached baseball for the association for many years. John attended Liberty High School and proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Having left high school to go into the service, he was honored at Libertys 2010 graduation ceremony by being awarded a special veterans diploma, an honor that was especially fitting since his spirit was as youthful as the rest of the Class of 2010 which included his great-grandson who presented him with his diploma. John was a long time member of the former Midway Manor Moravian Church. Pops legacy will live on in all the young people who he nurtured with his gentle demeanor, his terrific sense of humor, his unwavering patience and his endless kindness. He loved his home, his family and the Yankees and was never happier than sitting in his recliner with his baseball cap on watching a good game. To his many kids he was pop, the man, the myth, the legend. Survivors: John is survived by his daughters, Lonnie Wentling wife of Urban (Brother) Wentling of Allentown, Judie Samer of Hanover Township; his grandson, Mark Hanna; and great-grandson, Mitchell Hanna, of Hanover Township; sisters, Eleanor Fisher and Elizabeth Beam of Bethlehem; a nephew, William Beam and his wife Linda, of Palm Coast, FL; nieces, Kim Carlson and Jeri Fisher of Bethlehem; his extended family and many good friends. Along with his parents and loving wife, he was predeceased by a brother, James Peffer; a sister, M. Doris Bonamonte, her husband William; and his nephew, John Bonamonte; his aunt, Mary Peffer, who raised him; brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph Fisher; and his son-in-law and true friend, William Samer. Services: Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the ODonnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Ave., Allentown.
