Joseph J. Holena, 86, formerly of North Catasauqua, was called to the Lord, Sunday, February 10, 2013. Joseph and his wife, Catherine (Prosak) Holena, would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on August 6. Born April 28, 1926 in North Catasauqua, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Anna (Makovetz) Holena. Joseph worked as supervisor at the Case Box Lunch Company in Allentown for 28 years. He also served on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for seven years. He was a member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church and served as Eucharistic minister, lector, choir member, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a faithful member of the Men of Malvern and he was a 3rd-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 528 in Allentown. Joseph honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict; and president on N. Catasauqua Borough Council. Survivors: Besides his wife, Catherine; daughters, Anne Marie Holena of Allentown, Regina, wife of Thomas Krause, of Northampton, Donna M., wife of Gregg Chromiak, of North Catasauqua, Mary Ann Bond of Catasauqua; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne Kraynick of Coplay; and brother, Frank Holena of Whitehall. Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Albert Holena. Services: A prayer service will be held Friday, February 15, at 10:15 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, 1003 Second St., N. Catasauqua. Family and friends may call Thursday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Contributions: Memorials may be presented to the church.
