I knew JJ from doing voiceover work with him, at Creative Sound Studio, mainly in the 80s and 90s. He was a real pro and a delightful gentleman.

J.J,. and I worked together briefly at WIP Radio. Our friendship continued when I moved on to WPVI-TV and he was the staff announcer at then-across-the-street WCAU-TV. He was professional, kind, loved his family, and was a man of rare faith. God's peace be with his family and friends.

This reminder of Joe arrived in my email today. It also reminds me of how fleeting life is; how important we all are in the fabric of life; and, how important it is to love in the present moment...because it is truly all we have. Joe Maura was a beautiful person and I know he lives on in the hearts of his brother, Wayne, His beloved mother, Izzy, and his wife and children. I know that you are resting in peace in the arms of your Heavenly Father and reunited with your earthly father in heaven.

I knew Joe -- not well, but as a fellow WIPer during my last couple of years there. I was not aware until today of his passing, and wanted even at this late hour to express my regret at his loss. I've been an Alabama resident since '86, retired here in '08, and news of my former life comes infrequently. Rest with God, Joe.

I worked with JJ at WIP in 1979-80 and we remained friends when I moved on to WPVI and He to WCAU-TV. He was a dedicated broadcaster, a caring man, and an insightful Christian. Our work schedules made it difficult to stay in touch in recent years. I will always remember his professionalism, and his well-articulated beliefs. Our conversations were always uplifting and chalelnging.

God's peace to his family and friends.

I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I worked with him at WAEB and was a fan when he worked at WEEX. He was a real gentleman and one of the nicest guys I knew in the business. He was very talented and generous with his time and knowledge. My condolences to all his family members.

Family and friends will miss JJ as a kind and loving person, friend and supporter. The Phillies and Steelers have lost a loyal fan. God has lost one of his greatest spreaders of his word on this earth, but now has the greatest debater of all time on his side in Heaven. I feel privileged to have known Joe as a good friend and am I so glad that he called me to his side at the end where even in his weakened condition that night he was still offering his support and help to me with a long and sincere prayer.. I truly know that he is at peace. Love you Lois, Joe and family.

I will always remember Joey as a kind, soft spoken and gentle human being. Joey used every opportunity he had to make a positive impact on others. As a kid, i always looked up to cousin Joey. As an adult, i continue to look up to him. He is a tremendous inspiration to all of us. He will be missed and always be loved.

I was so sad to hear of JJ's passing. I knew JJ when he was "JJ Maura" on WAEB-AM. He was one of the kindest people. You did not often find people like him in the wacky radio business. He was always willing to help me in the recording studio or with anything. Even though I only worked with him a short time he left an impression. I am so sorry for your loss and am sorry that such a special person left us too soon.

When I first met JJ it was when he was known as Jim Lloyd in the early 70's and he had just faced a huge disappointment in a Philadelphia radio experience. We spoke at length about how that turned his life around. He truly turned that obstacle into an opportunity...not just a professional one, but more importantly, a personal one. He also gave my son, Gene Werley, Jr. one of his first opportunities in broacasting. I'm glad he was in my life and wish I had maintained more contact with him.

He was always there to pray for us and with us. So many memories over the past 44 years, my favorite was the day Joe took Lois and I to breakfast , QVC, shopping and Joe sitting in the back seat reading the newspaper out loud to us. We were teenagers again driving around laughing and enjoying our time together. Our faithful friend will be truly missed.
