M. Clyde Norelli, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Monday February 2, 2016 at 91 years of age. He was the loving husband of Jane Pauline (Maiorana) Norelli for 67 years. Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, Clyde was the son of Charles and Mae (Hitt) Norelli. He spent his youth in Philadelphia, Mississippi, then moved to New York City at the age of 5. A veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a medic in France and Belgium from February 1944 until the end of the war in Europe in 1945. Clyde then joined his parents who had moved to Easton, Pennsylvania where he met his wife, Jane. After returning from his service in WWII, Clyde worked as an auto dealer at his Father's business, Hampton Chevrolet, Easton. They went on to found the first Volkswagen Dealership in the Lehigh Valley, Lehigh Valley Volkswagen, in Allentown. This award-winning dealership was nationally recognized in the areas of outstanding operational performance and service throughout the 1980s. Clyde graduated from Churchman's Business College in 1948, then Chevrolet Post-Graduate School of Modern Merchandising and Management in 1952. Clyde was active in many organizations and enjoyed dedicating time to volunteer activities. He was a member of the Kiwanis Clubs of Easton and Allentown, where he was Treasurer, and the Pennsylvania Auto Dealers Association and National Auto Dealers Association. He belonged to Trinity Episcopal Church, Easton, PA, and then St. Margaret's Church in Emmaus, Pennsylvania where he served on its vestry for many years and cooked many Sunday morning breakfasts. In retirement he volunteered at Lehigh Valley Hospital for 20 years and Meals on Wheels for 14 years. Clyde loved to play golf with his wife and friends and was a long- time member of Brookside Country Club. He and Jane traveled extensively, sharing several of their adventures with their grandsons. In his retirement years he enjoyed drawing and oil painting and also took pride in tending to his vegetable garden and sharing its produce with family and friends. He was a devoted family man who delighted in attending all of the many events involving his children and grandchildren. In later years, he looked forward to meeting his friends for coffee and shared his sense of humor with them generously.
