I was a classmate of 1LT Mark Resh when we attended the Apache course together in 1991. I was the oldest member of the class at 53. Although he was senior to me in rank, he was alway gracious and professional in demeanor and a true professional. I have a photo of the class with Mark sitting on the wing of one of our training Apaches. i treasure this photo. I was in Iraq when he was killed and wasn't aware of the engagement that took his life. I pray for him nearly every day. CW4 (Ret) Pat Leone

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also to let the Resh Family know that we recently sent a donation to the members of the Pennsylvania and Massachusetts National Guard who responded during Hurricane SANDY here in NY City in the name of Mark T. Resh US Army Captain. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Sincerely,

It has truly been my honor to sign Mark's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Mark will always be remembered in my home.

CPT Resh and I had this joke every time he walked into the flight Ops office. He would say "Ski am I going to fly today" and I would tell him yes or no. If I said no he would say "your crazy" I called it everytime and he would ask "how do you do that" I miss him everyday. I just wanted you to know he was really liked.

I was priveleged to serve as Mark's chaplain in Iraq. I was new to the Army and I looked up to him and we became friends. Four years has gone by and the memory of the day is still very fresh and very painful. We miss you, Mark.

A few weeks ago, a couple of soldiers getting ready to deploy asked if I lost someone while I was deployed. As I told them about CPT Resh and Mr. Chao, I started to choked up. Both were like older brothers to me. Losing them has been tough and I have shed tears, but I am forever grateful that I was able to serve with CPT Resh and Mr. Chao. They are TRUE American heros and will never be forgotten.

I was just thinking about CPT Resh and came to this page. Great leader, great warrior, and an even better person. I am proud to have gotten to serve with him. It was a very humbling time there at Camp Kalsu, and one that remains in my memory.

It's the one of the saddest Day of my life; when on that cold Day in Camp Taji I learned about you leaving us for the Heavens. The Heroic actions you and your crew took on one of the greatest battle of the war can not be told in word, they will be forever imprinted in our Hearts... You will forever be in our tough and prayers…

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Mark, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

September 29, 2008

Mr. Mrs. Resh and family;

My name is Will Szekely, I served proudly with Cpt. Resh in the 1st Armored Division and then with the 1st Cavalry Division. I had the good fortune to be deployed both times with one of the finest pilot, officer and a gentleman I have ever known. He was a humble soft spoken warrior with steel nerves when it came to his chosen proffesion. He was a great friend to us all in the armament shop. While browsing online I thought of Mark and searched online for him, that is how I came to this site. I say this to you to let you know that those who knew him will never forget him. That is how much he meant to us. I wish you all the best and know that Mark is in a better place hotdogging in a Longbow.

Respectfuly yours:

William Bela Szekely

Resh family,
My deepest sympathy. I didn't know Mark well, but I knew him enough to know he was a kind and polite individual. He was a friend of my brother's when we still lived down the road outside of Fogelsville and Claussville on Apple Drive back in the late '80s. I would chat with Mark on the bus. You gave the most anyone could ever give for this country.

I was also one of the last soldier's to escort his remains off the battelfield that day in late Jan. of 2007. Littel did I know him and I both called Pennsylvania "home". I can't help but feel as a native to PA and fellow soldier that I owe my condolences to his friends and family. Please feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected]. Once again, my sympothy.

Thank you for the sacrifice made by Capt Resh and the sacrifice made by everyone who loves and misses him! May God bless all of you!!

August 6, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To Mark's family-
I met Mark when I signed in to the unit at FT Hood in May of 2006. He was a kind, soft-spoken man, and a great Officer and Soldier. I could never keep up with him on the PT field, and that same drive and determination presented itself in his work ethic. I am thankful to have known him, and certainly will never forget him.

To the parents of Mark - I offer my deepest sympathies. I had the pleasure of serving with Mark during his first tour in Iraq. Mark was professional, innovative and a tireless worker. Most importantly – he was a good man. He always offered help and never refused any requests for assistance – all while never getting angry or frustrated. I never forgot that and his conduct was an example to everyone in the unit. I wanted to thank you for raising such a fine man and rest assured that he will never be forgotten by those he served with.

To the Resh Family,
I had the privilege of serving with Mark during flight school at Ft. Rucker and will always remember him as an extraordinarily competent and confident officer, one of the most well liked and respected in our class. He was a quiet professional with a fantastic sense of humor and I will always remember how he made the rest of us better officers without saying or doing anything. As a former First Cavalry Division Apache Pilot, I waited anxiously for news of the crews to be released and was deeply saddened to read Mark's name. He will be remembered by many and missed by all who had the honor of serving with him. God bless you all.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the Resh family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I met Mark in college and have managed to stay in touch with him since. We last saw him in January of 2006 when he made it to Pittsburgh for our wedding. Mark was a great guy - he was easygoing, hardworking and you could depend on him for anything. We shared a lot of great times at Pitt.

I'm so glad we were able to meet you at the funeral. It was so moving, and Mark did one last thing for us...he brought back all of his college friends in one place. It was great to reminisce. We just wish we could have done it while he was still here. We're proud to have known Mark and he will be greatly missed by many.

I will be thinking of you and hoping that you will find the strength to continue on with life until you will meet him again one day.

To Mark Resh's family, girlfriend & friends,

I don't know Mark but I was a Patriot Guard at his services today. Thank you to all the family & vets that took the time to personally thank each and every Patriot Guard. You touched our lives in a special way. Judging by the people I met today it's clear that Mark was a man of dignity & respect who cared deeply for those in his life. Your lives will never be the same, but I'm sure are better because of Mark. I send my wishes for peace and happiness in the future. It was an honor to guard his services.

February 9, 2007

To the Resh Family, I am so very sorry to hear about Mark. We were friends at Northwestern and I have many fond memories of those times. I was looking at a collage of pictures I have hanging on my wall the other day. There is a group photo of a bunch of us who went hiking at the Bake Oven Knob one day during our senior year. It was very cold and I remember we were trying (unsuccessfully!) to keep warm with a little campfire. Mark the Boy Scout stepped in and made it work, saving the day. I can't believe that was 10 years ago. I am so very proud to know him and admire his bravery. I will always remember Mark fondly. I am truly sorry for your loss of such a wonderful person.

Dear Resh Family,
I do not personally know you or your family, but my heart aches for you as we lost a son at 19 to cancer and have a son in the Army serving in Afghanistan. We read his obituary in the Morning Call. He must have been a wonderful son, brother, friend, and officer. My family and I want to thank you for your son and for his ultimate sacrifice, so that we can continue to be free. We are grateful for men and women like Mark. We wish we could have known him. The world seems a little less bright without him in it. I know that nothing that I can say will ease your pain and grief, but I wanted you to know that you are not alone and that my thoughts and prayers will be with you in the days and weeks to come. May God hold you and keep you at this most difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mark was quite simply a great person. He taught me so many things, like how to ice skate, play blackjack, and make the best pancakes ever. And gave me so many memories. He was loved by many. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you. I'll always miss him.

My deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss. My words may do nothing to soothe the loss but I wish you to know that Mark was a quiet professional and unselfish warrior. I was fortunate enough to serve as his Instructor Pilot in Germany and first tour to Iraq. He was a pleasure to work with and a true American hero who will be sorely missed. Assassin 22

To Mark's family, I met this hero in 1998 at Pitt, we trained together through ROTC, got lost together at Camp Dawson WV, and froze our butts off together on more than one occasion. In 2003 he covered my platoon as we moved throught the busy streets of Baghdad, I always felt safe when he was up there watching over us. This January I did not know that the helicopter mission I had requested as a Brigade planner was executed by Mark until after the incident. I am so sorry. Words cannot describe how I feel about the loss of my brother. Mark has made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of freedom, there is no greater honor. There is a hole in the Army, and in the hearts of those who knew him well that will never be filled. To my brother Mark, I know you are still up there, keep watching over my soldiers, Airborne, All the Way!

My deepest condolences go out to your family. I graduated from Northwestern as well, and it is so saddening to hear of losing a local. It just makes reality sink in how much closer, my brother is Army soon to go, and my husband is Navy, and the possibility is there too. I can't support the men & women in the armed forces enough, not enough people do.

I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with him during this lifetime at Northwestern Lehigh High School, sharing many of laughs over lunch and I personally will always remember him as "Reshy". I am most humbled and grateful for his service to our country.

To the Resh Family,
I met Mark at the University of Pittsburgh. Mark and I became good friends through the many hours we spent in the car driving from Pittsburgh to Allentown. He was an amazing person who exemplified honor. I am sorry to say I did not have much contact with Mark since we graduated college. I am sorry for your loss, and, I thank you for the ultimate sacrifice Mark made for our country and the freedom it provides. I can honestly say that I regret letting life get the best of me and not staying in contact with Mark. It is true that you do not know what you have until it is gone. This I say of Mark's friendship. I will truly miss him.

I had the opportunity to meet Mark through his loving fiancee. He would bring her lunch when he was with us. I remember the last words we spoke together as a group. Mark was saying how much Theresa love it when he picked on her and she was nodding her head yes. The love I seen in their eyes is a never ending love. Your loving smile will always be remember. Even thou God has taken your spirit with him, the shell he has left behind. Enjoy the choir that is singing and the harps that are playing. Also enjoy the beautiful scenery that one day we will be able to enjoy. Theresa you will be forever in my prayers.
