Mildred Elizabeth Emery
Mildred Elizabeth (Herman) Emery, of Quakertown, PA, died Friday, November 23, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA. She was 83. Born February 13, 1929 in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of the late Corwin J. and Ruth (Fauz) Herman. She graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1947 and Bowling Green State University in 1951 with a B.S. Ed. Degree in Music Education. She went on to do post-graduate work at the Combs College of Music in Philadelphia in Music Therapy. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority at Bowling Green State University. Married on August 11, 1951, she was the wife of the late Jerrell B. Emery, who died in November of 1993. Known to her friends and family as Midge, she was a cellist and pianist; taught instrumental and vocal music at public schools in Monclova, OH and the Indianapolis, IN area and was a private piano teacher and choir director in Zionsville, IN. She and her family moved to Bucks County, PA in 1970 and for many years played piano professionally at numerous venues in the Philadelphia area. She was a well-known free-lance pianist. In addition to her musical interests, she was an avid sailor along with her late husband, Jerry and their sons. Mrs. Emery was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quakertown, PA, where she was a member of the Ladies Workshop. Survivors: She is survived by three sons, Stephen L. and Michael S. Emery, both of Quakertown and Andrew M. Emery, of Kintnersville, PA; a grandson, William Emery; a brother, James N. Herman and his wife Carol, of Sylvania, OH; and two sisters, Florence M. Wheelden of Watervillle, OH and Marcia R. Herman, of Zanesville, OH. She is also survived by five nephews; two nieces; one great-niece; three great-nephews; and special friend, David Fox of Ambler, PA. In addition to her husband, Jerrell B. Emery, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Edmund Wheelden. Services: Her memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 102 N. Hellertown Ave., Quakertown, PA 18951. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, Inc., Perkasie, PA.
