Russell Christman, Jr.
Russell S. Christman, Jr., 86 of Northampton, PA died on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth, PA. He was the husband of Betty I. (Getz), with whom he shared 62 years of marriage this past April 21, 2013. Born in Northampton, PA, he was the son of the late Russell S., Sr. and Irene I. (Sacks) Christman. Russell worked for the Northampton Post Office, 25 years as a clerk and 11 years as a Rural Carrier retiring with 36 years of service in 1982. He then went on to work for the Northampton Area School District as a School Bus driver and driver for the Sports teams and Band for 13 years, retiring in 1997. He was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northampton, PA, where he served on the Senior Choir for over 30 years, was a three term 15 year Church Council member and served on two Call Committees to hire new pastors. He was a Past President of Fairview Cemetery Board, Northampton, PA. He also was a former Coach and Umpire for the N.A.A, Northampton, PA for over 20 years. A Life Member of the Northampton V.F.W. Post #4714. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. during W.W.II. Survivors: Surviving along with his wife Betty are a son, Randall Z. Christman and wife Cheryl of Northampton, PA; a sister, Mrs. Dolores Demko of Bath, PA; two step-grandchildren, Cody and Courtney Chazsar. Services: A Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013 at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, PA 18067 with the Rev. William M. Horn officiating. The Family will receive friend on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Monday, September 23, 2103 from 1 to 2 p.m. both at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be held Graveside at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery, Northampton, PA.
