Sara Chaifetz Gordon
Sara Chaifetz Gordon, born November 3, 1914, passed away December 11, 2012. Sara Chaifetz Gordon grew up in Brooklyn, entered Brooklyn College at age 15, and graduated in 1934 with a degree in English. She married Herman Lewis Gordon, an engineer who became a patent attorney. In 1940 they moved to Silver Spring, MD, where she lived until 2006. A speech therapist in Prince Georges County schools, she was active in the Montgomery County Language Handicapped Assoc. Later she directed senior activities at the JCC of Greater Washington, and volunteered as a docent at the Museum of American Art. Survivors: Preceded in death by her husband; she is survived by her daughter, Stephanie G Phillips, PhD, Mountaindale, NY; and sons in Allentown, Richard E. Gordon, MD and Joel J. Gordon; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Services: Graveside service at King David Memorial Garden, Falls Church, VA; shiva visitation at the home of Richard Gordon and Carolyn Katwan on Sunday, December 16 from 5 p.m., service at 7 p.m. Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown.
