Francis J. Achando
Francis J. Achando, 94, of Charlotte, and formerly of Bethlehem, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013. Francis was born on December 26, 1918 in Valley Falls, RI; son of the late Jose M. and Marie D. (Sousa) Achando. Francis proudly served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. In 1983, Francis retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corp. as an inspector in the Metallurgical Department after over 41 years of service. He was a member of the USW AFL-CIO Local 2599. Francis was a former parishioner of Holy Infancy Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #313. He was a member of the Portuguese Club, where he served as past vice president and past secretary; he was also a past officer of the Portuguese Continental Lodge #31 and was an active committee member for the Bethlehem MORA Club. Survivors: Francis is survived by his loving wife, Anne Sule; his brother, Jose Achando and his wife, Goldie; his stepdaughter, Patricia Rodite and her husband, Robert; his stepdaughter, Kelly McClintock and her husband, William; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Achando; his daughter, Lorraine Koszi; and several siblings. Services: Services have been entrusted to The Connell Funeral Home. A graveside ceremony with full military honors will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Saviour Cemetery, 2575 Linden St., Bethlehem, PA 18017.
