Stephen A. Gerkovich
Stephen A. Gerkovich, 84, of Walnutport passed away peacefully on January 31, 2014. Stephen and his wife, Julia A. (Grucela) Gerkovich, celebrated 59 years of marriage on November 27. He was born June 19, 1929 in Berlinsville and he was the son of the late Constantine and Katerina (Valo) Gerkovich. Stephen retired from the Bethlehem Steel after 45 years of employment. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Walnutport. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He served on the Honor Guard in Fort Meade. Survivors: His wife, Julia; son, Stephen T. Gerkovich and his wife, Sheryl, of Nazareth; daughter, Mary, wife of Andrew DeAngelo, of Whitehall; four grandchildren, Michael Gerkovich and Anne, wife of Mark Scagel, Thomas DeAngelo and Danielle, wife of Michael Pompella; a brother, Paul Gerkovich and his wife, Alma, of Walnutport. Stephen was predeceased by nine siblings. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 4, at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 4412 Mountain View Dr., Walnutport. Family and friends may call Monday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton, and Tuesday morning, 10 to 11 a.m., in the church. Burial with military honors will follow in the St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery.
