Obituary Condolences

Moira Elizabeth McHugh
Moira Elizabeth McHugh (Moira), entered eternal life peacefully at the age of 90 on March 5, 2014 at her home in Allentown, PA in the caring arms of her daughter. Born in New York City (Astoria) on November 27, 1923 to Anne Monica Harkin of Co. Tyrone, Ireland and Charles Scherzinger of the Black Forest near Freiburg in southwest Germany, she received degrees in Religious Studies from Fordham University and the College of New Rochelle. A longtime resident of Scarsdale, NY and Starlight, PA, Moira has lived in Allentown for the past fourteen years. Moira was active in Parish life at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Hancock and at Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale, where she taught CCD and started a leisure time group for local senior citizens. Moira was a beautiful caring woman, who could encourage even the most disheartened with her warmth and attention. She believed in sharing her faith in both words and deeds, and on many occasions opened her home to children in need, awaiting more permanent foster care. She became a member of St. Thomas More parish upon moving to Allentown in 2000. Bill and Moira were very appreciative of the Eucharistic ministers from the Parish who visited with them every Sunday and brought them the Eucharist, when they were unable to attend Mass. Survivors: A devoted mother, she is survived by nine children (Aileen Baker, Maureen, Teresa Ingalsbe, William Jr., Brian, Robert, Kathleen Silliere, Donald, and John); 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and by her brothers, Kevin and Eugene; and by her sister, Monica Moran. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Bill; and her brothers, Pat and Charlie. Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 11, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA. A viewing will be held on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th and Hamilton Streets, Allentown. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to EWTN at 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210 (or simply share the Rosary with someone you love and pray for peace) or St. Thomas More Catholic School, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA 18103.
