Anna Giles Obituary
Anna Mae Giles
Anna Mae (Bristol) Giles, 97, of Bethlehem, passed away March 12, 2014 in Holy Family Manor. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Ichter, and then to the late Frederick Giles. Born September 23, 1916 in Ashley, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Margaret (Davis) Bristol. Anna was a graduate of Rutgers University, and a member of the American Association of University Women. She worked as a business administration professional, and then pursued teaching as a substitute teacher. She was also a member of the Muhlenberg Bridge Auxiliary, and of the Cathedral Church of the Nativity. In her later years her needs were attended to by her loving niece, Judi Shaffer. Anna loved to play bridge with her close friends, and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. However, her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family, and enjoying the simple pleasures that life has to offer. Her loved ones can take comfort in knowing Anna passed from this world just as she lived her life... peacefully. Survivors: She will be dearly missed by her brother, Arthur Bristol of Bethlehem; sister, Audrey Stair of Bethlehem; stepchildren, Frederick Giles of Florida, Susan Giles of Maryland, and Barbara Sato of California; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Walter, James, and Albert Bristol and Mabel (Bristol) Morgan. Services: A viewing will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m., with services at 11 a.m. in Downing Funeral Home, 1002 W. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. Interment will be private at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Annas memory to the Alzheimers Foundation of America (www.alzfdn.org).
