Lombardo, (Ret.), Col. John A.Col. John A. Lombardo, (Ret.), 91, of Breinigsville, died on Tuesday, April 8th, 2014 in his home. Formerly of Boston, Mass, his wife of 44 years, Pauline F. (Passaro) Lombardo died on February 20, 2012. He was previously married to Henriette (Chutel) Lombardo of Texas. Born in Germany on April 25, 1922, he was the son of the late Vincent, who was a member of the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany, and Emma (Wilutski) Lombardo, and was the step-son of Theodora Van Bysterveld. He was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Allentown where he was a Deacon and served as Financial Secretary and Consistory Members. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Conference of the U.C.C. The Colonel left as a student from the Catholic Seminary in 1943 and joined the U.S. Army as a Private in the infantry. He was promoted to every enlisted grade to Regimental Sergeant Major, appointed a Warrant Officer, followed by a direct appointment as Captain. His military career of over 36 years of active and reserve service included assignment in the infantry during combat and landing at Omaha Beach in France, Foreign Claim Services and Military Government. His last assignment was as an Inspector General. The decorated Colonel was a Soldier's Soldier! During his civilian career, he was an office manager for George Brox, Inc. of Dracut, Mass., Assistant to the General Director at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston, and was District Field Services for all the company offices in New England, except Massachusetts, for the former American Mutual Insurance Companies. His fraternal organizations included: The Association of the U.S. Army, The Military Officers Association of America, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Founder and Past-Commander of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars, Past Chairman of the New England Telecommunications Association and Secretary/Treasurer of the "Be Smart, Don't Start Drugs Club" in Allentown. He was a 32nd Degree F & A M and Past Chaplain of the New Temple Masonic Lodge in Allentown. Survivors: Children, Gerald "Jerry" Lombardo and his wife Barbara of New Hampshire, and Richard Lombardo and his wife Nancy of Texas; Step-daughters, Carla Solt of Breinigsville and Rev. Sharon Harfman and her husband Joseph of Stockertown; 5 Grandchildren; and 4 Step-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Lombardo. Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13th, 2014, Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Streets, Allentown. A viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
