Ernest P. Vessels Obituary
Vessels, Ernest P.Ernest P. Vessels, 78, of Bethlehem, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Nancy R. Beitel-Vessels and the late Betty (Price) Vessels. Born in Somerville, NJ, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Dorothy M. (Dowdell) Vessels. Ern worked for many years, as a Truck and Bus Driver for NJ Transit, Transbridge and Lanta. He was a member in good standing of the Amalgamated Transit Union #956. Ern was a former Freedom Rider during the civil rights movement and played one season with the Cleveland Browns, until an injury ended his career. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler's fan. He was a deeply spiritual man and above all, he loved all of his family. Survivors: his loving wife, Nancy; sons, Floyd Vessels (Marilyn Hunter) and Clifford Vessels (Carla) all of Dallas, TX; stepchildren, Cynthia Schultes (Brian) of Allentown, Lisa Hopkins (Jeffrey) of Harrisburg and Frank Kozero, Jr. (Jody) of Hellertown; sister, Donna Walton, brothers, Keith and Anthony Vessels, all of NJ; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and a cousin Octavia Gamble. Ern was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Bradley, brother, John Vessels and sister, Diane Vessels. Services: Friends may call from 9-10:30 AM Saturday, April 19, 2014 in the Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St. Bethlehem 18018. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Saturday at the Old Chapel of Central Moravian Church at Heckewelder Place, Bethlehem.
