Ralpha Senderowitz Obituary
Senderowitz, Ralpha Ralpha Senderowitz, 94, passed away May 30, 2014 at Kirkland Village, where she had resided since 2011. A resident of Allentown for over 60 years, she spent her summers at the family camp in Rangeley, ME. Born in Buffalo, NY, Ralpha was the daughter of the late Lillian and Albert Becker. Her biological father, Ralph Kohn, died before her birth She was a graduate of the School of Speech and Drama at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois (B.S. '41). Upon graduation, she was a Lieutenant in the US Navy WAVES, serving as a recruitment and public relations officer. During her tour of duty, she met and married then Lieutenant Robert Senderowitz of Allentown. They returned to Allentown and were married for over forty years until his death in 1988. Mrs. Senderowitz was a management communications consultant from 1960 to 2005 both in the United States and Canada, teaching personal intercommunication skills and corporate communications protocols to corporate executives and staff. In a Morning Call article profiling her business career, Mrs. Senderowitz , then 75 years old, referring to the hundreds of executives she had trained over the years, who she called her "students", said: "My students have kept me very young.......what could be more exciting than students practicing what I taught." In addition to her business career, Mrs. Senderowitz was active in Allentown civic affairs. She founded and was the long-time director of the Children's Theater School of the Allentown Civic Theater (ACT) and she played several leading roles in ACT productions. For over thirty-five years, she was the Master of Ceremonies for the Festival of Bands in Allentown, an event that benefited the Lehigh Valley's special needs children. She also conducted creative drama classes for special needs children in the Allentown School District. Mrs. Senderowitz served as President of the Board of Associates of Muhlenberg College (1979-1980) and was a member of Keneseth Israel Temple. Survivors: children, Susan Petro of Allentown, Peter and his wife Melanie of Allentown, and Stephen of Chicago; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Ralpha was predeceased by her sisters, Ruth and Jacquelyn, and a brother, Peter. Services: 11 AM Tuesday, June 3rd at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown.
