Hertzog, Ruth E.Ruth E. (Kistler) Hertzog, 78, of Staten Island, NY, formerly of Kutztown died suddenly Saturday, June 28, 2014, in her residence. She was the widow of Donald G. Hertzog who died November 16, 1998. Born in Kempton, she was a daughter of the late Phaon J. and Mabel F. (Sechler) Kistler. Ruth was a member, first female deacon and former church secretary of the Lutheran congregation of Jerusalem Red Church, Kempton. Mrs. Hertzog worked in various manufacturing companies in the area including the former Wenton Shoe Factory of Kutztown. She also worked in the dietary department of Kutztown Manor, Inc., and the former Rentschler's Bakery, Kutztown, until her retirement in 1998. Ruth also assisted her husband in the operation of his business, the former Hertzog's Lawn and Garden, Kutztown, for many years. Survivors: Daughter, Dorene L. (Hertzog), wife of Timothy J. Weiss, Staten Island, NY; two grandchildren, Sarah M. Weiss and Justin H. Weiss. Ruth is also survived by a brother, Floyd S., husband of Lila (Kamp) Kistler, New Tripoli. She was predeceased by a daughter, Diane L. Hertzog in 1961, a sister, Evelyn R. (Kistler) Dewitt, and a brother, Paul Kistler. Services: Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from Jerusalem Red Church, 15 Red Church Road, Kempton, with Reverend Robert Billig officiating. Interment will follow in Jerusalem Red Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Thursday morning from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
