John R. Kimock Obituary
Kimock, John R.John R."Johnny" Kimock, 87, of Whitehall, died July 13, 2014 in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. Born in Stiles, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary I. (Malast) Kimock. A 1944 graduate of Whitehall High School, he attended Heidelberg University in Germany. Retiring in 1987, he was a buyer/planner for Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown. Previously, he was a property accountant and manager of office services for Air Products and Chemicals, Trexlertown and an administrator of student affairs at Kutztown University. A life member of VFW Post 7293, Egypt, American Legion Post #426, Coplay, the V.G. Kern Veterans Association, Schnecksville, he was an army staff sergeant in occupied Germany during the Korean War. In 1942, he was the recipient of the MVP on Coplay's first American Legion State Baseball Championship. A consummate baseball player, he played for various town teams, semi-pro teams, and the farm systems of the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the former St. Louis Browns, and later, a special training assistant for the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres. A lifetime member of the PIAA and a member of the College Board of Officials, he refereed basketball on the high school, college, and professional levels for 35 years including the Harlem Globetrotters and the Harlem Magicians. He also managed an army baseball team and umpired post-level baseball. He was part-owner, Secretary, and Director of Publicity and Public Address Announcer for the former Allentown Jets. He was Service Electric TV's very first play-by-play basketball announcer. He was a past-president of the Lehigh Valley Basketball Officials Assoc. and the West Coplay Maennerchor. In 2000, he was inducted in to the PA American Legion Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2003, the Whitehall-Coplay School District Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Coplay. Survivors: Former wife, Theresa M. (Schwartz) Kimock; son, John T. and wife, Mary; daughter, Veronica M. Schreiter; granddaughters, Haley and Staci Kimock; grandson, Nicholas Schreiter. He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Maria. Services: Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Coplay preceded by a viewing from 9 to 10:00 a.m, Robert A. Hauke Funeral Home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay.
