Williams, Muriel L.Muriel L. Williams, 95 formerly of Slatington died Friday July 18, 2014 at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care, Kunkletown. She was the daughter of the late Edward O. and Emma (Long) Williams. She was a graduate of Slatington High School and the Allentown Business College. She served as secretary/business manager of the Northern Lehigh School District for 35 years retiring in 1972. She served as secretary to 7 school superintendents. In 1979, she was made an honorary life member of Eastern Pennsylvania Association of Retired School Superintendents. Muriel was a member of the first Girl Scout troop organized in Slatington in 1931, and later became leader of two Girl Scout troops. In 1941, she was elected President of the Lehigh County Girl Scout Leaders Association, and served two terms. Muriel was a charter member of the Slatington Women's Club & Northern Lehigh Historical Society. She was an active member of the Palmerton Camera Club, and won many photography awards. She was also active in the Palmerton Concourse Club, Palmerton Business & Professional Club, and Lehigh Gap Historical Society. She was a life member of the Lehigh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Muriel was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Slatington. Survivors: She is survived by two nephews; Vincent G. Williams, Jr. and Roger E. Williams, both of North Carolina. 15 great nieces & nephews. Muriel was pre-deceased by a brother Vincent and a sister Marguerite. Services: 11AM Wednesday July 23, 2014 United Presbyterian Church, 6750 PA Rte 873, Slatington. Calling hour 10-11am at the church. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, Slatington. Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, can be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Slatington.
