Joseph Oster
Joseph Oster, age 96, born in Pfungstadt, Germany (near Frankfurt), He was raised in Berlin, Germany and came to the United States in 1936. He was married to Mathilde (Toby) Luger who preceded him in death along with his brother Leo Oster, formerly of Miami, FL. He served in the U.S. Army, from January 21, 1941 until retiring from thereserves in 1974, having attained the rank of Major. He was a graduate of Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Ft, Sill, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, Joe served in the Army Intelligence Corps (OSS) and also in the 134th Field Artillery, 30th Division, in the Pacific Theatre and Fiji Islands during WWII. He later graduated from the Military Intelligence School, Camp Richie, MD and served in the Mediterranean Theater, Fifth Army HQ, 15th Army Group, North Africa and Italy and with the Headquarters, U.S Forces in Vienna, Austria. After the war, Joe worked as Chief Designer at Globe Lighting Products, NYC, from 1948-1960; then served as Vice President of Research and Development for Keystone Lamp Company in Slatington, PA from 1961-1981. He was a member emeritus of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and a life member of the Reserve Officers Association (US Military). He held several U.S. Patents for his lighting and mens apparel. He resided for 64 years in Allentown, Pennsylvania where he was a long time member of Congregation Temple Beth El where he later established a philanthropic fund. His last residence was in Dublin, Ohio. Survivors: Brother, Rabbi Sol Oster, in Hilliard, OH; a sister, Nettie Oster-Rosenfeld of Paramus, NJ; and a nephew Joel Oster of Hilliard, OH. Services: Noon Monday, Temple Beth El, 1305 Springhouse Road, Allentown PA. Interment will be at Beth El Memorial Park, Whitehall, PA. Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown.
