Lester L. Bowen
Lester L. Bowen, 93 years, and longtime resident of Fifth St. in Fullerton, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, August 24, 2012 in Sacred Heart Sr. Living, Northampton. Born in Catasauqua to the late Robert and Mabel (Troxell) Bowen, he was the husband of Dora Jean (Williams) Bowen for 54 years at the time of her passing on January 28, 2002. Lester served in Administration with the PA National Guard 213th Area Support Group at 15th and Allen Sts Allentown for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. He proudly served in the US Army attaining the rank of Master Sgt and Chief Warrant Officer during WWII. A life member of the Fullerton Fire Co #1, he enjoyed bowling at the Coplay Saengerbund and the Charotin Fire Co. in Catasauqua. He was a proud member of the 1937 undefeated Catasauqua football team and was an avid golfer. Survivors: Daughter, Elyse Ogden and husband Bill; sons, Les and wife Judy, Douglas and wife Sally, Donald and wife Kathleen, Barry and wife Sandy, Alan and wife Pam, and David; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Sterling Duffy and wife Gladys, and Curtis; predeceased by brothers, William, Willard and Sherwood. Services: 11 a.m. Friday August 31, 2012 in the Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, located 1 block south of the Fullerton Ave exit of Route 22. His viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors by Fullerton American Legion Post 367 will follow in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.
